Degree Requirements

The following requirements must be satisfied for a Bachelor of Science with a major in recreation, event and sport management (therapeutic recreation track).

Hours required and general/college requirements

A minimum of 120 semester hours, of which 42 must be advanced, and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree as specified in the “” in the Academics section of this catalog and the requirements.

Major requirements

Recreation and Leisure Studies, 39 hours

Students in the Therapeutic Recreation track must take the following 12 hours.

BIOL 2301 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I and
BIOL 2311 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I Laboratory (may also satisfy a portion of the Natural Sciences requirements of the University Core Curriculum)

BIOL 2312 - Human Anatomy and Physiology II Laboratory (may also satisfy a portion of the Natural Sciences requirements of the University Core Curriculum)
COMM 2040 - Public Speaking (may also satisfy the Discovery requirement of the University Core Curriculum)
PHED 1000 - Scientific Principles and Practices of Health-Related Fitness

Internship and professional development, 15 credit hours

RECR 4100 - Internship in Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services (12 credit hours)

Other requirements

A minimum grade of C is required in each recreation course, and a 2.5 GPA is required on courses in the major.
A minimum UNT GPA of 2.0 and an overall GPA of 2.0 are required for graduation. Overall GPA includes all course work transferred plus that taken at UNT.
