Degree Requirements

Hours required and general/college requirements
A minimum of 120 semester hours (127 semester hours for those seeking all-level teacher certification), of which 42 must be advanced, and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree as specified in the “University Core Curriculum ” in the Academics section of this catalog and the College of Education requirements. All kinesiology majors
All kinesiology majors must take the following courses. Some are prerequisites for courses in the kinesiology core. Theory core, 24 hours
All kinesiology majors take the following courses and must meet all prerequisites. Physical performance courses, 5 hours
PHED 1211 and one course from Group I, Section D are required of all students in the non–teacher certification option. In addition, students must choose two additional sport activities from Group I (each from a different section) and one selected from Group II. At least one activity must be at the intermediate or advanced level Other kinesiology requirements
General interest area, 15 hours
Students select 15 hours from the following kinesiology electives: Health fitness interest area, 9 hours
Athletic training, 15 hours
Other course requirements
Health fitness interest area, 12 hours
12 hours of cognate courses: General interest area
Minimum of 18 hours from area other than kinesiology, 6 of which must be advanced. Health fitness interest area
Minor in health promotion: General interest area
14 hours, most of which must be advanced. Health fitness interest area
Non-teacher certification students selecting the health fitness interest area must complete 8 hours of electives. Other requirements
- A minimum grade of C is required in each course in the major; a minimum GPA of 2.75 in the major, 2.0 in UNT courses, and overall is required for graduation. (Overall GPA includes all course work transferred plus that taken at UNT.)
- 12 hours of KINE must be taken at UNT.
- 42 hours must be advanced; 24 of which must be taken at UNT.
- 6 hours minimum of minor must be advanced.
Total number of hours may be reduced if student follows recommendations for courses listed in university core. (Consult the Student Advising Office, Matthews Hall, Room 105, for details.)
