Recreation, Event and Sport Management, MS

The 30-hour, online Master of Science degree program with a major in Recreation, Event, and Sport Management (RESM) prepares students for entry and advancement within recreation, event, and sport organizations and agencies. This entirely online degree provides students with a theoretical foundation while also developing their practical managerial and operations skills.

Career opportunities include program, event, leadership, and management positions in various types of agencies such as public, private, and not-for-profits. Alumni with this degree work in municipal, state, and federal recreation and parks; resorts, military, and commercial recreation enterprises; sport, schools, outdoor education, and camp facilities; YMCA, college athletic, intramural and campus recreation, and wellness and fitness centers; golf, aquatic, and tennis clubs; sports equipment sales and operations; and professional and semi-professional sports organizations.

The degree program is open to any qualified student who has an interest in recreation, event, and sport management, regardless of the student’s previous program of study.

Financial support is available to students who serve as graduate assistants in the Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation, UNT Athletics, Campus Recreation, and Student Services.

Admission requirements

The student must meet the requirements for admission to the Toulouse Graduate School. Included in these requirements are:

  • a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
  • an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 for the last 60 semester hours of course work or a 2.8 GPA on all undergraduate work; and
  • a demonstrated proficiency in oral and written English.

No standardized test scores are required for admission

Degree program

The online MS degree in RESM is 30 hours.

Students take eight courses (24 hours) and complete a culminating experience (6 hours) under the supervision of a RESM graduate faculty member.

Options under the degree


Students must complete a 6-hour culminating experience under the supervision of a Graduate RESM faculty member.

Thesis option


Students may enroll in 6 credits in one semester or split the credits over two semesters.
