Manufacturing engineering technologists share much of the mathematics and science background of engineers. Their academic preparation emphasizes technical skills and product/process manufacturing applications. The major thrust of the manufacturing engineering technology curriculum is that of product/process design and factory automation. Graduates also take positions in research and development, reliability/quality assurance and process support functions.
