Return to: College of Visual Arts and Design
The graduate academic certificate in urban art education studies (UAES) is designed to provide graduate students in the visual arts and education with specialized knowledge and skills in urban art education. The certificate in UAES combines theory, practice, and inquiry in urban art education. It prepares students to understand and respond to the complex social, cultural and institutional contexts that shape art participation, curriculum, teaching, learning, partnerships, and programs in urban environments.
The UAES certificate program is intended for post-baccalaureate students who are established and aspiring professionals working at the intersections of art and education. These may include, among others, school teachers, art museum educators, community-based artists, and interdisciplinary arts and urban program directors. Those who complete the program will possess the capacities to develop, implement, and advocate for art programs that engage urban youth and communities.
