The Master of Science with a major in business analytics is designed to provide an appropriate base of knowledge for entry into the business intelligence or business analytics fields that are part of the information technology and decision sciences professions. The program is intended for those students who desire a strong, specialist degree in business analytics that incorporates a solid understanding of both the application and use of business analytics and the technology that underlies and facilitates those applications.
Admission requirements
Students seeking a Master of Science with a major in business analytics must satisfy the admission requirements of the College of Business.
Degree requirements
The student earning the MS with a major in business analytics must meet the following requirements:
- completion of background courses in business as necessary;
- completion of at least 36 semester hours of graduate work beyond background courses assigned by the department;
- a GPA of at least a 3.0 on all graduate work taken at UNT;
- a GPA of at least a 3.0 on all BCIS and DSCI courses taken at UNT after admission to graduate school;
- a GPA of at least a 3.0 on all courses taken for graduate credit; and
- minimum academic standards for master’s students.

Background requirements
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and admission to the Toulouse Graduate School are needed for graduate standing.
Students may have acquired this background in their undergraduate programs by the completion of courses equivalent in content to UNT’s business foundation requirements for the bachelor’s degree in business administration. In addition, students are required to have a working knowledge of computer-based business tools.
The Master of Science with a major in business analytics requires the following business courses:
Foundation requirements, 21 hours
Students who have already taken the equivalent of any foundations course will substitute an appropriate course, subject to approval by the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences.
Elective courses, 15 hours
Students will select five elective courses to complete the minimum 36-hour requirement for the degree. At least three of those courses must be taken from the ITDS department. Up to 6 hours of elective courses may be taken outside of the ITDS department as long as they are related to the program of study and approved by the ITDS department. Students must obtain approval from the ITDS department for all electives.
Required elective course, 3 hours
Students must take at least one of the following for three hours of elective.
