Hours required and general/college requirements
A minimum of 120 semester hours, of which 36 must be advanced courses, and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree as specified in the “University Core Curriculum ” in the Academics section of this catalog and the College of Engineering .
Major requirements
A minimum of 44 semester hours, including: Required courses, 26 hours
Biomedical engineering electives, 6 hours
Two BMEN courses. Additional engineering electives, 12 hours (minimum)
Four courses from BMEN, EENG, MEEN, ELET, MEET or CSCE. Other required courses, 52 hours
Minor
Students completing the requirements for this degree automatically earn a minor in mathematics. Through careful selection of engineering electives and electives taken toward one of the three optional tracks (see below), it may be possible for a student to fulfill the requirements for a minor in electrical engineering technology/mechanical engineering technology/electrical engineering/mechanical and energy engineering. (Through course selection, a student may specialize in electrical engineering technology or mechanical engineering technology. With consent of the department, a student may be permitted to specialize in mechanical and energy engineering.) Electives, 12 hours
12 hours to fulfill one of three tracks:
- Biomedical instrumentation: 12 hours in BMEN, EENG or ELET courses
- Biomechanics: 12 hours in BMEN, MEEN or MEET courses
- Bioinformatics: 12 hours in BMEN or CSCE courses
Other requirements
- A grade point average of at least 2.5 is required for all engineering foundations courses.
- An overall grade point average of 2.0 is required for the BS with a major in biomedical engineering.
