Degree requirements

This program is currently only admitting freshmen.

Hours required and general/college requirements


A minimum of 120 semester hours, of which 42 must be advanced courses, and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree as specified in the “University Core Curriculum ” in the Academics section of this catalog and the College of Engineering .

Major requirements


A minimum of 44 semester hours, including:

Students completing the requirements for this degree automatically earn a minor in mathematics. Through careful selection of engineering electives and electives taken toward one of the three optional tracks (see below), it may be possible for a student to fulfill the requirements for a minor in electrical engineering technology/mechanical engineering technology/electrical engineering/mechanical and energy engineering. (Through course selection, a student may specialize in electrical engineering technology or mechanical engineering technology. With consent of the department, a student may be permitted to specialize in mechanical and energy engineering.)

Electives, 12 hours


12 hours to fulfill one of three tracks:

  • Biomedical instrumentation: 12 hours in BMEN, EENG or ELET courses
  • Biomechanics: 12 hours in BMEN, MEEN or MEET courses
  • Bioinformatics: 12 hours in BMEN or CSCE courses

Other requirements


  • A grade point average of at least 2.5 is required for all engineering foundations courses.
  • An overall grade point average of 2.0 is required for the BS with a major in biomedical engineering.
