Nuclear Engineering Technology, BSET (not currently accepting students)

A Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology with a major in nuclear engineering technology teaches students to safely apply mathematics, science and nuclear principles for production of power, waste disposal, medicine and manufacturing.

The nuclear engineering technology major is designed to provide breadth of training for engineers and related technical personnel at the Luminant Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station. The program has a strong foundation in mathematics and science and adds nuclear engineering principles ranging from materials science to reactor design. Courses in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical circuit design, electric power generation and automatic control systems augment the curriculum. The program enhances the reactor operator training provided by Luminant by stressing the fundamentals of underlying physical and engineering principles behind many plant operating procedures.

Nuclear engineering technology is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET (111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202; 410-347-7700).

Hours required and general/college requirements

A minimum of 124 semester hours, of which 42 must be advanced, and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree as specified in the “University Core Curriculum ” in the Academics section of this catalog and the College of Engineering requirements.

Major requirements, 72 hours

72 hours, chosen with the advice of an academic advisor within the department.

TECM 2700 - Technical Writing is required instead of ENGL 1320 (satisfies College of Engineering Core requirement)

Hours required for electives may vary based on course selection and the University Core Curriculum requirements. Electives may be required to satisfy the advanced hour requirement (42) and/or the minimum total hours required for the degree. Other requirements

A grade of C or better is required for all major courses and elective courses counting toward the major.
Courses taken to satisfy the technical options in the major must be approved by the academic advisor.
