Research

The Master of Science with a major in engineering technology offered by the Department of Engineering Technology builds primarily upon accredited baccalaureate degree programs in engineering and in engineering technology, and in related fields including computer science, mathematics, and physics. The degree provides an advanced knowledge of engineering technology tools and an understanding of their direct application to current and emerging industry requirements. In short, the degree is Engineering Technology, the career is engineering.

The MS degree offers thesis and non-thesis options in the specializations areas of construction management, electrical systems, engineering management, and mechanical systems.

Research in engineering technology entails the systematic application of advanced science, engineering and mathematics to synthesize an implementable solution to a problem of industrial relevance using known or emerging technology. The word “technology” is used to include appropriate hardware specific to any engineering discipline; software such as CAD/CAE; or an abstract design technique or an algorithm described in a textbook, a patent or any other scholarly publication. Therefore, research in engineering technology is naturally translational, applied and led by short- to medium-term industry needs.

Degree programs

The department offers a graduate program with thesis and non-thesis options leading to the following degree:
