The Department of Technical Communication provides a research-centered and practice-oriented learning environment to prepare students for careers in professional and technical communication. At the core of the curriculum, the department provides students real-world experiences through client-based projects.

The Department of Technical Communication offers graduate and undergraduate degrees and certificates in professional and technical communication. Courses are taught by an internationally recognized and award-winning faculty whose research is at the forefront of the field.

The degrees offered by the Department of Technical Communication provide students with a comprehensive grounding in foundational aspects of communication, including writing, editing and research. Additional courses provide students with the opportunity to study specific genres of content creation, advanced evaluation techniques and various media for the distribution of content. Students also have the opportunity to complete internships in major companies across the U.S. Students have interned with major companies such as Microsoft, Southwest Airlines, Balfour Beatty and Sabre. Those students seeking to enter PhD programs receive the kind of personal attention that results in subsequent placement into PhD programs of the highest caliber.

Students graduating from the MA have enjoyed a 100 percent job placement rate since 2000. These graduates work in a variety of industries such as computer software and hardware, airlines, construction, consulting, and telecommunications.
