The Department of Community and Professional Programs offers four fields of study that share a focus on building professional skills as well as working to promote the social good. Undergraduate degrees are offered in social work and applied arts and sciences (BAAS). The BAAS is a multidisciplinary degree program specifically designed for transfer students. Minors and certificate programs are also offered in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and in nonprofit studies.

The disciplines administered by the Department of Community and Professional Programs are designed to prepare students for professional careers in a variety of fields including business, state and local government, nonprofit management, or for graduate school. Social work graduates are eligible to take the examination for licensure as a social worker by the State of Texas and are qualified for employment in a variety of human service settings, including mental health centers, hospitals, hospice, youth and children’s services, aging programs, criminal justice, and organizations that deal with poverty and issues of social and economic justice.

Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS)

The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) is a multidisciplinary degree program that is specifically designed for students transferring to UNT with occupationally-specific credits earned at a community college or technical institution. Veterans or active duty service members may also receive college credit for specialized military training.

Social Work (BSW)

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree prepares students for entry-level practice with special populations including the poor, those who are oppressed, and other at-risk groups. It is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Students begin the program as pre-social work majors and may apply for acceptance to take the major after completion of specified prerequisites.
