ANTH 4740 - Anthropological Perspectives in Tourism

Explores representations of the exotic “other” in host vs. guest encounters before examining such intricacies of global tourism as heritage and authenticity, staging and commodification, development, gender inequality, and sustainability. Through ethnographic case studies, students explore and compare these phenomena in cultural tourism, eco-tourism, spiritual tourism, and biomedical tourism.

Prerequisite(s): None.
