SOWK 3525 - Violence in Families



3 hours

The extent of the problem, risk factors, and traumatic effects of violence on the individual, family, community and society are explored.  Theoretical perspectives to understand the problem and differentiate between various forms of violence will be examined.  Emphasis will be placed on understanding how violence is shaped by social location for vulnerable and oppressed groups.  Prevention and intervention models will examined with special emphasis on the advocacy role of social workers in creating social change.
